back to the basics

Before you can learn how to snowboard, you have to get the right equipment. Specifically a snowboard. There are 3 different types of snowboards available in todays market. All go towards a different style of boarder.

But first we have to learn how to size our snowboard:
Now that we know what size to buy, we have to figure out what style of board.

All Mountain

This style accounts for 50% of all snowboard sales in the entire business, clearly becoming the most popular. This is mainly because it can do anything, it's good for everything; halfpipe, terrain, and park.  This snowboard has a certain shape that makes it so that it is meant to be ridden one way and one way only, what I mean by this is that in All Mountain the tail is generally shorter and more narrow.

Freestyle

These boards are a bit shorter in length, wider, and love the terrain parks, rails, jibs, trash cans, tree trunks, and riding switch. This snowboard is very responsive which makes it the best board for beginners. Are not good for carving turns or cruising fast.

Carving, Alpine or Race Board

Narrowest type of snowboard with strict confines that allow for speed. Worst type of snowboard for a beginner. Not good for tricks, they are mainly for carving and going downhill.

Saskatoon Boy

This, is Mark McMorris. Mark is an amazingly talented athlete, only 5 years into the sport he is already an olympic medal winner and sponsored by the highest grossing companies in sports. Such as Red Bull, Burton, Oakley, and Skullcandy. Born in the baron and flat province of Saskatchewan, Mark had to drive 2 hours to get to the nearest ski hill named Asessippi. Which is mostly a valley.

Mark was the first to complete a backside triple cork 1440 and is the 2012/2013 champion at the X Games.  He is currently riding a Burton Process Flying V Snowboard, which is used mainly for park and terrain, it's squeezebox core profiling transfers energy towards the tip and tail for snappier ollies and effortless stability. According to his contract, all of Mark's hard goods have to be from Burton. So he is currently riding with the Burton Imperial Snowboard Boot and the Burton Malavita EST Snowboard Binding.

There was a lot of drama for Mark right before the Sochi Winter Olympics. At the Winter X Games, Mark clipped a rail near the top of the course on his third and final run, landing on his side farther down the rail. He was able to ride  down the rest of the course on his own power. Despite this major hiccup, Mark still went to the Olympics and was able to place as bronze in men's slopestyle. Everyone in the snowboarding community believes that if the accident would never have happened, Mark would have gotten Gold.

Mark is one of my favourite athletes mainly for the reason that we come from similar beginnings. prairie land without a mountain in site. I really admire how he is known very widely for his braveness, ability, and willingness to attempt anything.

before the snow

Hi all,

My name is Mary Carey, I'm 17 years old, and I wouldn't be here if not for a bible project.

It's called a passion project. You choose something you're passionate about or would like to be passionate about, and learn more and become more capable with it. Last year I learnt how to speak Swahili in anticipation of my trip to Kenya, which, in my opinion, was a failure.

This year I'm going towards snowboarding. I've been snowboarding for 7 years, I've been kind of boring with my skills. I focused on learning how to carve, do a box rail, go off a jump, and then I stopped. I'd like to learn how to do tricks and rails and become one of the most talented on the hill. Maybe even get signed, but that is a long distance future goal. I live in Manitoba, so that's not all that great for snowboarding mountains. I do however have a floodway that they made a snowboarding resort on. It has two runs, one is plain, and the other is a Terrain Park.

We require a mentor and mine is my brother, he has participated in halfpipe competitions and has been snowboarding for 9 years.
